Yeah, its not that pretty, but neither was the Yugo when we drug it home. This is the lastest Misfit Toy. Stay tuned to see what happens.
Ok, so Ive started stripping the paint and here's what we have so far

Passenger side and hood look pretty good. There's a little filler but it was all very well done and is just a light skim to cover imperfections in the metal.

There was some minor rot in the sail panel which was previously repaired, but as you shall see, not quite correctly. I have a patch cut for this area but Im waiting on my shipment of RustBullet so I can treat as much of the inner sail panel as I can reach.

This is the old patch. It was well made and welded but someone made the mistake of layering it over the bad metal instead of cutting it all out and cleaning everything up. As you can see from the back the old metal was rotten and starting to work its way back through the patch.

I also scored a nice set of Riviera wheels off the Samba. Not quite my first choice for this car but with the cost of Fuchs being what they are the Rivieras are a bargain and look good. I'd rather spend the big bucks on other phases of this project.
Finally got some time out in the shop to do a little work. Finished stripping the driver's side of the car.

And cut out the old sail panel patch, treated behind it with Rustbullet.

And then I got around to welding up the passenger side sail panel and smoothing it out. Its just the first pass but it looks good so far and its a solid repair.

Did the drivers side sail panel today and remembered to take photos. A breif tutorial is here.
Never fails, when I give up on what Im looking for (Fuchs wheels) and buy something else (the Riviera's above) I stumble on a deal. So in that vein I got a great deal on a set of Fuchs replicas and the Rivieras are for sale. Although the look of the Rivs has kinda grown on me so if they dont go right away I wont cry.

Also went and checked out a 74 914 locally. Its beyond saving, in fact I think it may fall apart on the tow home. But its a chrome bumper car which means the bumpers are worth more than the guy wants for the car. And it has a rebuilt 1.8 in it and some other parts I wouldnt mind having so I will probably get it, keep what I want and part the rest. Since you have been following my repair of my sail panels you might be amused by the hack job on this one. Just sheet metal screwed some metal over the whole thing....eeep.

Some photos of parts Ive accumulated
Turbo Tail rear spoiler

916 fiberglass bumper

Counterbalanced crank and rods

And some areas that need a little work
Front trunk patch, all welded in but needs smoothed out

Driver door sill

"Hell Hole" and battery tray. Tray is solid but upon further inspection the hell hole will need some patching, nothing too severe luckily.

Some interior shots per quest.
