Ok, so we learned of this interesting event when another team posted info on the Grassroots Motorsports messageboard. The basic premise? Get from NYC to New Orleans in 4 days, meeting challenges such as photo scavenger hunts along the way. Oh, and by the way, you have to do it in a vehicle purchased for $250 or less. Woooohoooo, stupid fun, how could we possibly say no? So an inkling of an idea was hatched, and it grew and grew.
Each year now we keep coming back, and each year we do it a little different. But each time there is one constant, good friends, good fun and everyone is ready to go again as soon as it's over.
The crew at Street Safari put on a great event and I strongly encourage anyone who thinks this sounds like fun to give it a try.
For 2009 the purchase budget is upped to $500 so all you 24 hours of LeMons guys can bring your cars along.
2006
The inaugural event. A rag tag group was formed to represent Misfit Toys. Jim T (thats me), Chris (Sonic), Jim W (the Wake) and Rafael (Captain Napalm) joined together and piloted our glorious 1982 Chevy conversion van to a 4th place finish.

Because once is never enough! A plan was hatched on the return leg of 06 and Jim T set about to source a school bus to make the biggest rolling party BABE has ever seen. The bus was found but needed some (alot) work. Couple this with a move of home and shop in December and the time just wasn't there to pull this one off. A last minute shuffle saw Jim T piecing together a VW bug from spare parts. Jim and Chris piled in the bug and Jim W and his brother Jeff sourced an old Saab in which they were joined by Rafael. Stellar teamwork brought us to finish 1st and 3rd. Coincidentally the 2nd place car was sourced by Jim T and registered to Rafael (but piloted by a great team from the UK) So Misfit Toys racing owned all 3 of the top 3 cars this year.

2008
A veritable fleet of cars was gone through to settle on a good one this year. Much sadness occurred when Jim T found a $200 Miata but it was too far away to get to in time. Much rejoicing occurred when it turned out Jeff lived near it and snapped it right up. Not to be one upped by the 2 more misfits Jim and Chris scored a tasty Mustang GT convertible and 2008 was a top down adventure with much hoonage. Not quite on par for the repeat this year but the Mustang did manage to eek out 2nd place to keep Misfit Toys in the record books for the event. More on 2008 here.
2009
With the new $500 budget and the addition of the American Iron class this year looks to be a real adventure and we are facing it head on in a Studebaker, Cadillac, Oldsmobile. Yeah, so as always we played musical cars but the end result is a very tasty 1969 Oldsmobile Convertible , I just love a good drop top for the rally. Teams were shaken up a bit too with Chris deciding to head out on his own. I picked up Jesse who's BABE Porsche project isnt going to be done for this year and Eric from last years Tossers with Tetanus team. In fact many teams this year are compilation teams with members from multiple previous year teams.
